Hey guys, this is Sean Kim reporting to you live from the beautiful city of Montreal. Another great sunny afternoon here and I thought I would give you guys a short message to think about before you start your day.
Have any of you seen the movie called "Groundhog Day?" If you guys haven't seen it yet, then watch the movie before you continue reading this! ....
It's starring the actor Bill Murray, where he travels back in time and has to live the same exact day over and over again.
I mean, can you imagine the frustration? Having to repeat the same routine and be able to predict precisely what's going to happen throughout your day, without any sort of surprise or excitement?
I can.
You see, this movie is quite ironic because it's a portrayal of how we live our lives every single day.
Just think about that for a second.
Everyday, we wake up in the morning for either school or work. We have our same routinely laid out breakfast in our fridge whether its eggs, bacon, bread. Or for some of us tardy people, we have it all wrapped up to go in an Egg McMuffin from our conveniently located McDonald's.
We sit on the Metro like zombies with one eye barely open, with an XL coffee in our hands, and when we go to work/school, we talk to the same people and eat our lunch in the same table.
Then when we get home, the first thing we do before even thinking about dinner is logging onto Facebook and Twitter (that is if you haven't already on your mobile phone). We eat dinner, shower and occasionally we meet our friends at a bar for a cocktail or two, if we are feeling rebellious.
Sounds familiar? It should.
You see, as human beings we are so remotely attached of wanting to feel normal that we are naturally uncomfortable stepping out of our way to do what we really want to do. This way of life eventually becomes a habit and we feel "comfortable" with our boring routines.
This is why I am proposing a CHALLENGE to each and every single one of you.
--------------------------------------------------
Today, I want you to do something different. And I'm not talking about having Cheerios for breakfast instead of Frosted Corn Flakes.
I'm talking about doing something that will normally make you feel a bit uneasy. Get out of your own head and compliment a stranger on the street, start a conversation with that cute girl/guy at work that you always had a thing for, or heck, start small and just go out for a change!
Beside pointing out the ridicule of how we live our daily lives, the point of this is to be comfortable doing something we felt uncomfortable doing a week ago.
This is how we become a better, more confident person, and this is how we make everyday count for something, instead of wondering what you did this past year when New Year's Eve comes around!
Now that's enough of me talking, get on with your "new" day and shout "NO MORE GROUNDHOG DAY."
